  PIER 39
For More Information: www.pier39.com

Pier 39 has become one of San Francisco's best known landmarks. From the now world-famous sea lions that draw crowds on the north side of the pier, to the Cinemax Theater and the UnderWater World Aquarium, Pier 39 has become a center of entertainment for kids of all ages. The Cinemax Theater features two films, "The Great San Francisco Adventure", a 35-minute film that highlights the history, beauty and spirit of San Francisco and "The Living Sea", a 40-minute film that celebrates the world's oceans and our relationship with its fragile environment.

In addition to these larger attractions, Pier 39 is full of interesting shops, restaurants, a Marina Activity Center, arcade, a variety of street entertainers and features a beautiful antique carousel which is always a popular stop.

From Pier 39 you can also link with ferries of the Blue & Gold Fleet and others to destinations such as Alcatraz and the waterfront towns of Tiburon and Sausalito, or take a sightseeing cruise around the Bay.

Fisherman's Wharf
For More Information: www.fishermanswharf.org

The history of this famous wharf dates back to the gold rush, when Chinese and Italian immigrants fished the bay for crab and fish and sold them right off their boats. Fishing is still a major enterprise here, but the focus of Fisherman's Wharf has changed to tourism and entertainment, making a visit to this bustling marketplace a wonderful mix of souvenir shops, seafood restaurants and fresh fish sellers. You can still get a great walk-away crab cocktail during the winter crab season.

The Fisherman's Wharf area is also the home of three major shopping arenas; Pier 39, Ghirardelli Square, and The Cannery . Ghirardelli Square, which began as a chocolate factory in the mid-1850s, is now a historic landmark. Many of the original buildings and structures have been preserved, but around them a brick-terraced courtyard with shops and restaurants has evolved into a popular visitor destination.

After the 1906 earthquake, The Cannery was built and quickly became the largest fruit and vegetable cannery in the world. Today, The Cannery sits on prime waterfront property and has become a vibrant marketplace with unique shops and restaurants. It is also home to the official Museum of the City of San Francisco, which traces San Francisco's history from Spanish times through to the 1906 Earthquake.
