This California State Park offers panoramic 360-degree vistas of the entire San Francisco Bay. On a clear day from the top of Mt. Livermore, Angel Island's highest peak, hikers are able to see the San Francisco skyline, Marin, Mt. Tamalpais, the Golden Gate Bridge, and four other Bay Area bridges. There are miles of hiking and biking trails, which offer some of the best ways to explore the island's 740 acres of diverse terrain, as well as take in the breathtaking views from all sides of the island.

Ayala Cove, where the ferry disembarks, is home to the main harbor, Angel Island Visitors Center, TramTours, Bike Rentals and the Cove Café, as well as picnic and recreational facilities.

At the Visitors Center, docents are available to share historic information and answer questions, or you can watch a 20-minute video on the island and its history. Angel Island has a fascinating history dating back to the mid-1800s. It's been used as a military installation during the Civil War, Spanish-American War, and World War I and II, serving as a prisoner of war camp and a quarantine station although it may be best known for its use as an immigration station from 1910 to 1940.

TramTours, which provides a one-hour, audio-enhanced historic and sightseeing tour, is great way to get an overview of the island's points of interest. To see the island from a closer vantagepoint, rent or bring your bike or take an all-day guided kayak trip around the Island.
