About the Ferry Voice Message Alert System

The Ferry Voice Message Alert System (VMAS) is a free service provided by The City of Alameda to notify riders of the Alameda/Oakland and Alameda Harbor Bay ferries of major service disruptions, delays and cancellations due to technical or environmental difficulties. Riders subscribing to this service will receive a recorded alert message at their home, office or mobile phone. Major events that would initiate the call system include: major weather disruptions, equipment failures, fires, earthquakes, or any other delays of 30 minutes or longer.

There are two phone alert calling lists, one for Alameda/Oakland Ferry and another for the Alameda Harbor Bay Ferry. Register to receive alerts for either or both ferry services by clicking here and filling out the form accurately and completely. Please note: Only directly accessible phone numbers will work; if the number dialed requires operator intervention or an extension dialed, the system will not work.

  • Phone number (with area code)
  • Select which ferry alert system you want to receive, or both

All phone numbers and names are treated confidentially and will not be used for any purpose other than ferry alert notifications. This service is provided to Ferry riders free of charge.
