Public Meeting to Discuss Proposed The City of Alameda will hold a public meeting to discuss a proposed Alameda/Oakland Ferry Service (AOFS) fare increase. The meeting will be held from 7:15 PM to 8:30 PM on Tuesday, April 24, at 950 West Mall Square, Room 140. All interested ferry riders and members of the public are invited to attend. Public comments collected at the meeting will be submitted to the City Council, who will consider the fare increase recommendation at their regular Council meeting on Tuesday, June 5. Members of the public who cannot attend the April 24 meeting are invited to submit their comments in writing to Ernest Sanchez at epsanche@ci.alameda.ca.us, or by mail to Public Works Department, City of Alameda, 950 West Mall Square, Room 110, Alameda, CA 94501. AOFS fares have not been increased since July 2004. Since that time, there have been significant increases in fuel, labor, insurance, and docking fees. In addition, the AOFS faces increased capital costs next fiscal year for vessel dry-dock (Peralta and Encinal), engine replacement (Peralta), and Main Street terminal dock replacement. To help offset these costs, City staff is recommending that fares be increased on all routes. If approved, the fare increases could generate an additional $180,000 over a 12-month period. The proposed fares changes are detailed below.
